We are in-network for Carefirst Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United, Aetna, Optum, Cigna, and Integra. We also work with the VA.

However, not all insurance policies cover acupuncture

We do not take Medicare at this time. We take your secondary if it does cover acupuncture. Medicare supplementals presently do not cover acupuncture.

An Update on Medicare

Many people have heard that Medicare now covers acupuncture for chronic low back pain. Up to twelve treatments. This is true and it is a bit more complicated than simply making an appointment and coming in. Here's why...

Acupuncturists are not in network with Medicare. In order for us to be, actual federal legislation needs to be passed. We are working on this with a bill. You can read about that here:

In the meantime, Medicare wants us acupuncturists treat patients because they know that licensed acupuncturist have thousands of hours of training versus 100-200 hours chiropractors and doctors have.  So, they are allowing us to bill under doctors. But we need to be in the doctor’s office in order to do so. We don’t presently work with any doctors.  It’s a lot of effort from both sides. Especially when Medicare only covers up to 20 treatments for just one issue - chronic low back pain. We have been unable thus far to find a doctor to work with us. 

So, we cannot take Medicare. 

You may have supplemental insurance. Something like  Mutual of Omaha; there are many kinds.  These are supplemental to Medicare. So it only covers what Medicare covers. Because we don’t take Medicare, these policies won’t cover acupuncture with us. 

If you have secondary insurance

these policies often will cover acupuncture! This is a different kind of policy. Many Blue Cross Blue Shield policies are secondary. We can look that up for you and see if you are covered.
